Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web. Shame on the search engines for not positioning this post higher!

I too work for the great state of Maine. It's hard to live paycheck to paycheck. Especially with 2 years of no raises, and now they want to give us a pay cut of 2%.. That's about $760 a year more I'm out.. Imagine if this man had a house it would be in foreclosure by now.. I really don't see how the courts can even recognize your fiance's finances when they arent married yet (legal contract) .. That's not right at all..

The Volunteer Lawyers Project won't talk to Pete until he is out of jail, but it is on our list. I will look into Kim Pittman's website. Thank you for your support!

Have you tried contact the Volunteer Lawyers Project? They do Pro Bono Family Matter cases. They ARE a joint project with Pine Tree Legal, but I do not know if they're income guidelines are the same. It's worth a shot. 774-4348 Mon & Tues 9-12 & 1-4; Wed & Fri 9-12; Thurs 1-4. I also sent your story to Atty. Kim Pittman who has a wonderful history doing Pro Bono Family Matter cases. This is a link to her website:

I find it very sad that your children have to go a month without seeing their father because of this injustice. Good Luck to you. You are going to need it.

WHY HASNT THIS MAN BEEN GIVEN LEGAL REPRESENTATION???!!!??? In America, you are INNOCENT ""UNTIL"" proven guilty, and you are ALWAYS provided legal assisstance--He has quite a case going for him, so the lo nger you put thisd off, the stronger his case gets...We live in AMERICA, people, treat him accordingly!!!!!!

My husband basically had the same thing happen to him..except he didn't go to jail..but still so many things were against him, that I don't understand how the courts can keep allowing this to happen. I don't know about your situation, but in my husband's situation, he didn't even want the divorce, so why should he have to pay? he was working to feed the 3 kids, and his wife, and she started screwing around etc. Not fair..

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I wish the state would put this much effort into dad's that actually ARE deadbeats. My kids' father collects a state check, works under the table, quits a normal job when the state finds him for his support, and they let him have his tax refund! Let this poor man out of jail!
